EarlyWorks Family Of Museums

Who We Are

The EarlyWorks Family of Museums consists of the Alabama Constitution Village, the Historic Huntsville Depot, the Humphreys-Rodgers House, and the EarlyWorks Children's Museum. All four sites house much of Huntsville and Alabama's histories and work to share those histories with the community in entertaining, inspiring, and educational ways. The collection of museums, besides opening its doors to visitors, also hosts several events throughout the year such as Santa's Village, WhistleStop, the Great American Series, Super Saturdays in the summer, and the EarlyWorks Golf Invitational. It is a three acre living history museum and park comprised of four main buildings and residences, a blacksmith shop, and a confectionery shop. This award-winning, historic recreation was built on the site of the Constitutional Convention of 1819 where Alabama became a state and works to depict 19th century life through hands-on educational programs. The family grew with the gift of the Humphreys-Rodgers House in 1991. This house, build in 1848, displays a decorative arts collections. In 1995, Huntsville's City Council turned the operation of the Historic Huntsville Depot over the the Alabama Constitution Village board. The added an authentic historical structure to the family in the for of the 1860 Memphis Charleston Railroad depot and headquarters. Its history as a transportation depot and a Civil War prisoner of war camp has allowed the EarlyWorks family to expand there educational offerings. In 1998, the EarlyWorks Children's Museum opened its doors and provided the community with the Southeast's largest hands-on history museum that invites visitors of all ages to learn, touch, play, and experience. This hands-on family museum is that last family addition to date.
